The Belstaff Trialmaster Pro is exactly the jacket I was looking for in that it has the traditional, waxed cotton vintage look that matches my classic-styled motorbike but also includes the modern features I demand, such as CE-rated armor, removable warmth liner, and a waterproof membrane. Being made of no-doubt durable heavier-weight waxed cotton and using traditional fastening fixtures does, however, present certain compromises. These include the very good looking but numerous buckles, snaps and zips that take an age to faster/unfasten, having extra abrasion panels only in the elbows and shoulders, rather than the entire jacket being made of more abrasion-resistant material, and not being conspicuous. From my perspective the positives greatly outweigh the negatives because as vain as it may be, I like to look good while riding my bike and think the classic 1940s-1960s style is the best. So, if you're like me and appreciate the form of your bike and gear as well as it's function, this could very well be the jacket for you. If, however, you're only concern is function, you might want to look elsewhere. Of note, I did a huge amount of research trying to determine the correct size for me as size charts and reviews vary wildly. I'm 5'9", 160 lbs. with a 38" measured chest so I seemed to be between the Medium and Large sizes. As I'm in the U.S. I ordered both sizes as didn't want to ship the wrong size back to Germany and then have to order the correct size. The Medium fits best as allows layering including a thick wool sweater but without being too baggy when just in a tee shirt.
