top boots (16.12.2023)

good quality, very comfortable with almost 0 break in required. They run a size smaller. I am usually 42 (27cm) and I had to get a size 43, which is actually what I should get according to Gaerne's size chart. While I had to adjust a bit the shifter, they are low enough as to fit under the shifter rather well.
Very nice Adventure touring boots (11.04.2023)

I bought these a few months ago and have since then done a 4'000km tour through Greece, Tunisia, and Italy. The boots felt comfortable when brand new, but quickly broke in to feel even better and softer to walk in.
Good points: Very comfortable, Very cool look (subjective of course), Stable and good feel on the foot pegs, Leather and finish look to be of high standard. The sole pattern is practical, it slides nicely on my bare foot pegs yet gives good traction when walking.
Negative points: The ankle Velcro closing is too large i.e. if I pull the shin guard completely snug around my shin there is no more Velcro to attach the flap to so I have to loosen it up a bit for the Velcro to fit. I don't think my shins are smaller than average. This means that the boot never feels 100% snug on my feet, and the protection is likely not optimal. This feeling is also increased by the fact that the heel box is way too wide for my feet so I can move the heel from side to side a bit. I also had to adjust the fasteners to the tightest position.
My feet are exactly 27cm long, and according to Gaerne fitting charts on other websites that equates to a Euro size 43 boot so that is what I bought.
When I received them I noticed the loose heel and wide shin and felt a bit unsure. I then looked on Gaernes own website where the size chart for the G.Midland recommends Euro size 42 for a 27cm long foot.
I therefore order a size 42 pair as well. The 42 pair were way too short and my toes were touching the front of the boot just walking around in the house. However the heel still felt loose. I returned the 42 size boots (very easy process with FC-Moto).
In summary:
- If you put your pants inside the boot the shin guard will probably feel totally snug.
- I plan to see if a cobbler can readjust the shin guard Velcro for me.
- The size 43 is a bit loose for my feet so I added an extra inner sole, but the size 42 was way too tight. I guess a half size would have been the ultimate but that doesn't exist.
- Regardless of the sizing and shin guard issues I really like these boots and will not be changing for anything else until they wear out.
- Purchasing from FC-Moto is an excellent experience.
